Teachers in America are stood up to with expanding standpoints from national and territory measures alongside a logically assorted student base that challenge customary habits of guidance and obtaining. In add-on to expanding standards, answerability and an assorted student populace, educators are confronted with social issues that diminish quality schoolroom heading cut ( Public Agenda, 2004 ) . The parts of the bargains other than achieved by the adherents: being bar arranged to flexibly bolster each piece ahead of schedule as conceivable each school twelvemonth and giving said underpins ; utilizing proof based interventions for all students ; and using informations to gauge progression and concocting adjustments when required ( Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports, 2011 ) . For delineation, the crew is considering executing a framework wide jargon plot inside the school: LINCS ( R. Cobbs, individual imparting, November 30, 2011 ) . The plan utilizes visual creative mind, front cognizance and watchword mnemotechnic gadgets to make review cards to help students in jargon and appreciati on ( LINCS Vocabulary Strategy, 2011 ) . All schoolrooms use jargon in one signifier or the other and a predictable, precise assault from all educators can help all students inside Ottawa High School to increase jargon improvement ( R. Cobbs, individual conveying, November 30, 2011 ) . Level 2 guide happens when educators go over the request, â€Å"‘what would we say we are set up to make when they do non larn? ’† Essentially, understudies who are non run intoing achievement in Tier I interventions are recognized through headway observing and alluded to Tier 2 mediation. Level 2 mediations include foreordained additional interventions and plans dependent on the particular achievement sets that understudies need to achieve ( Kansas Department of Education, 2011 ) . For delineation, if students are recognized as holding issues with phonic cognizance for perusing, they are put on Tier 2 mediation and will have additional everyday help to assist them with that achievement. At the secondary school degree, students are to have an abundance 30 proceedingss of core bearing in minimal homogenous gatherings. Gatherings sizes at Tier 2 understudies extend from four-to-six students ( Kansas Multi-Tier System of Supports†¦Reading, 2011 ) . Ottawa High S chool anticipates pleasing its coordinations to suit the requests of MTSS Reading Implementation. The program is to actualize a seven hr twenty-four hours with every hr at 53-minute increments. A 30-minute everyday mediation period will be executed for Tier 2 interventions. Educators distinguished as capable teachers will be drawn closer to assist the school with these understanding interventions, regardless of substance ( R. Cobbs, individual imparting, November 30, 2011 ) . At long last, Tier 3 guide happens when understudies need additional help past the guide of Tier 2 mediation. While Tier 2 mediations have standard intervention conventions for explicit requests for understudies, Tier 3 guide turns out to be significantly increasingly individualized as â€Å"the student’s educators, instructor, and guardians reliably decide the issues that should be tended to for the student† ( Kansas Department of Education, 2011 ) . Gathering sizes in Tier 3 mediations extend from one-to-three students and incorporate continuous progression observing to proceed to drive proof based bearing ( R. Critical Thinking Process Is Applied Through A 10 Step...

Introduction According to Browne and Keeley, critical thinking is the application of active listening and asking questions in an effort to determine the validity of a speaker or writers claim (2013, p. 4). The critical thinking process is applied through a 10 step identification process: 1) issue and conclusion, 2) reasons supporting the conclusion, 3) ambiguous terms and phrases, 4) values and descriptive assumptions, 5) fallacies, 6) evidence, 7) rival causes, 8) statistics deception, 9) significant omission and 10) reasonable conclusions (Browne Keeley, 2013). Using the 10 step process, I will evaluate an internal memo from Mr. Anil Ravaswami, Vice President of Human Resources, to Ms. Cynthia Castle, CEO, for Cliffside Holding Company of Massapequa (CHCM) and identify the details of the critical thinking process (A. Ravaswami, personal communication, October 10, 2012, p. 3). Issue and Conclusion In an October 10, 2012 memo from A. Ravaswami to Ms. Castle, A. Ravaswami addressed the prescriptive issue regarding the value of a proposal brought forth by Ms. Florence Forsythe, Director of Operations, to subsidize junior insurance executive leadership development training through the Aspen Institute at an approximate annual cost of $200,000.00. According to Mr. Ravaswami, Ms. Forsythe’s proposition is not worth the investment by CHCM (A. Ravaswami, personal communication, October 10, 2012, p. 3). Russian Media as a conveyer ideology and a tool of hegemony Free Essays

Since the disintegration of the Soviet Union, news regarding Russia’s economic and political state has been spread abroad to other countries through the work of the media. The ideas represented in the Russian media have been responsible for the perception that the acquisition of material goods is not only desirable but indispensable to life and normality. The influence of the media might be considered hegemony, which is represented by the control of one group (the media) over a larger population (the Russians). We will write a custom essay sample on Russian Media as a conveyer ideology and a tool of hegemony or any similar topic only for you Order Now This control manifests itself in the perceptions of prosperity that are held by many Russians, largely because of the glamorization of Western culture as presented in the media. Because of the influence that this perception has had over the lives of many Russians, it is often thought on the one hand that all Russians currently live their lives in abject poverty. Because many cannot currently afford the expensive things they see Westerners enjoying, they consider themselves as living at a low standard, and this perception is also passed on to the West. On the other hand, it is also believed in some circles that the pomp that can be seen in the major Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg is an accurate measure of how all Russians live. This too has stemmed from the above-mentioned media hegemony and the perception of material wealth that is passed on to the public as â€Å"normal.† The media has, therefore, been responsible for bombarding consumers with such views that promote wealth and materialism as being indispensable to any successful economic society, and this has led to inaccurate perceptions of the Russian economic situation. During the Soviet Union era, Communist ideology acted as a barrier to the entrance of Western ideas and views into the minds of the Russian public. However, with the fall of Communism and the deregulation of the media, an ideological hegemony began to arise. This hegemony has been fueled by the media. As a result, Western ideas of capitalism and materialism began to mingle freely with Russian socio-economic ideology. This ideological change is evident in the attitude of Yegor Gaidar, Acting Prime Minister of Russia following the Soviet Union’s collapse. He said, â€Å"Our main goal [is] the construction in our country of a stable and, at the same time, dynamic and prosperous Western-type society† (Diligensky Chugrov, 2000, p. 14). This opinion was made public to the Russians through the media. Gaidar continued to explain that the main difference between the Russian and the Western civilizations at the time was the development of a market economy and the right of citizens to own property. At such a crucial period of change, this ideology held by the leader also found its way into the minds of the Russians via the media. Because of this, more and more Russians began to strive for the material possessions characteristic of the typical Western society (Diligensky Chugrov, 2000). It is by the hegemonic efforts of the media that these and other ideas have been placed in the minds of the Russians. The effectiveness of the media in effecting this change in the Russian perception of Western civilization has been demonstrated in public opinion polls taken by Russian citizens. The citizens of the West are generally considered by Russians to have such enviable qualities as wealth, inviolable rights to property, high compensation for labor, and talent for entrepreneurship (Diligensky Chugrov, 2000). This can even more convincingly be attributed to the effect of the media as it has been noted by Russian thinkers that the order in which these qualities are valued by Russians does not represent the true hierarchy of value given to them by Westerners. Rather, it represents the extent to which these needs are perceived as unsatisfied within the lives of the Russians. The Russian media has played the role of portraying as indispensable those Western values that correspond with areas of Russian lack, and the media has made these values â€Å"especially visible against the background of impoverishment and economic hardships in Russia† (2000, p. 19-20). Because of the sheer visibility of the way Westerners live, which is made possible by the existence of the media in all its forms, Russians have perceived it as necessary to strive for these idealistic material values. In addition, their lack of material wealth has been perceived by those who look on as evidence that the Russians live in abject poverty. The media’s hegemonic control over the minds and perceptions of Russians and Westerners alike is evident in other ways. The ideas put forth to Russians via the press (as well as via media access to programming originating in the West) have led to what has been termed the capitalist revolution. With the West as its model, Russia has evolved into a society that contains a â€Å"business elite† (Lavelle, 2004). Within this society, the rise of the business elite has led to wealthy and propertied class that has become very visible in both the Russian and Western media. These persons, who are often celebrated by the media, are seen in such personalities as business tycoon Andrei Melnichenko. He has been publicized as the person who has had a large hand in the transformation of the Moscow MDM Group into a corporation that grosses three billion dollars a year (BusinessWeek, 2002). The media broadcasts the lifestyles of these extremely wealthy Russians who have a core of senior-level employees that also enjoy the fruits of capitalism. These persons live publicly in the very affluent and expensive areas—cities, such as Moscow and St. Petersburg. These cities now boast very high costs and standards of living in a country that had been widely perceived as being filled with persons who live below the poverty line, and this is shown to the world through the media. In fact, according to a worldwide cost of living survey, St. Petersburg ranks as having the 12th highest cost of living in the world. Moscow’s reputation is even more astounding as it ranks as the world’s most expensive city, (Mercer Consulting, 2006). Despite the general Western perception of Russia as having a struggling market economy, the media is now beginning to demonstrate that Russians have been able to afford the highest living standards and costs in the world. Two major implications derive from the fact that the two major Russian cities have been ranked among the most expensive in the world. One is that the perceptions of this country generally engendered by the media are to some extent quite erroneous. Many Russians are as able to afford material goods as their Western counterparts, and poverty is not the general state of all the persons who reside in the former Soviet Union. In fact, according to business reports, Russia’s general standard of living has been on the rise in recent years. This is demonstrated by the fact that its citizens have begun to feel a higher level of security in their economic situation (BusinessWeek, 2002). While in the early 1990’s inflation rates had been in triple digit numbers, by 2002 this had fallen to a mere 17 per cent. By that time too, the stock market index had risen by 27 per cent in the year, and Russians were being reported as â€Å"starting to trust Russia [because] money is coming back† (2002, p. 13). These views are now being over-represented in Western perceptions of Russia as a way of counteracting the previous media-created perception of the poverty of Russians. However, the fact that Moscow and St. Petersburg fall among the most expensive cities hides the fact that once one leaves these highly publicized cities, one is bombarded by a stark decrease in standard of living. What is not represented now in the Western media is this exaggeration of the capitalist gap (between the very rich and the very poor). The media largely demonstrates to the Westerners the wealthy side of Russia—perhaps as a means of de-emphasizing the prevalent idea of Russians as suffering in abject poverty. The media’s hegemonic influence urges Westerners to see the affluence of the large cities without giving a wider view of the whole country. This view would demonstrate the steep decline in living standards as one leaves these economic centers. The media represents a body that to a large extent controls Russians’ and Westerners’ perceptions of how Russia’s wealth compares to that of the rest of the world. This media hegemony carries out a two-fold deception, in which all Russians were once considered by Westerners as living in abject poverty, but that now is beginning to demonstrate all Russians as being wealthy. No balance appears to have been struck between the two views, as the media fails to present an accurately proportioned view of the situation. The media also demonstrates its hegemony in its ability to coerce Russians into viewing the property of Westerners the true measure of economic success. This fact is widely considered as a reason for the biased view of the Russian situation: Russians have been found to grasp for these material things, and these possessions often hide their true areas of lack. James Madison And The Slavery Issue Essays -

James Madison And The Slavery Issue James Madison and the Slavery Issue The Revolutionary period of the United States was a time filled with much turmoil and confusion as to how this newly found nation, should be modeled. Many delicate issues were discussed and planned out to get the best outcome for all concerned. One of these issues that cast an ominous shadow over the new republic was the slavery issue. Some of the most prominent figures at the head of this nation wanted to bring about an end to it but continuously failed due to the inconvenience of finding a workable plan. The topic of this paper is a man who is thought to have little to do with the slavery issue but played a relatively large role. James Madison although a slave owner himself wanted to rid the nation of this constant nuisance to the one truth America was founded on, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Although he held many political offices, his opponents would contend tha t he did not take full advantage of them and should have been able to do more to eliminate the evil from society. In this paper, I plan to explain how James Madison was able to be very influential in the slavery issue. James Madison's ideas of slavery being an evil and needing to be done away with are ideas that have an indefinite point of origin. Two evens that may have had a profound influence on these ideas happened only a few years before his birth. In June of 1737, a slave named Peter was found guilty by a court of Oyer and Terminer of murthering his said master, and sentenced to be hanged (Scott, p. 134). Afterwards, Peter was beheaded and his head placed on a pole near a creek for all to see. The creek was renamed Negrohead Run and noted as a familiar place frequented by Madison. In 1745, a black female slave named Eve was burned to death for poisoning her master, Peter Montague. The sheriff who carried out Eve's sentence was the great uncle of Madison, Thomas Chew. His father related this story to Madison. Although these events may not have had quite an effect on Madison, the efforts of his parents were very influential. During Madison's youth, slavery combined the personal ease of the mast er with a life long consideration for the servant, (Brant, 1:44). Clement Eaton, author of A history of the Old South, describes many southerners as having a guilty conscience over slavery. It is uncertain whether Madison suffered from this but he did respect the slaves owned by his family. This respect was carried by Madison throughout his life and is often pointed to in the writings of his personal servant, Paul Jennings. After Madison's death he wrote that, [Mr. Madison] often told the story, that one day riding home from court with old Tom Barbour (father of Governor James Barbour) they met a colored man who took off his hat. Mr. M replied, I never allow a Negro to excel me in politeness, (Jennings, p.19-20). Madison would often write home asking about the family which to him included the slaves. One of the first direct references to slavery in Madison's writings came in a letter to Joseph Jones. In this letter, Madison responds to Jones' idea of offering slaves as a bonus to those who fight in the war for independence. Madison responds by saying: I am glad to find the legislature persist in their resolution to recruit their line of the army for the war, though without deciding on the expediency of the mode under their consideration, would it not be as well to liberate and make soldiers at once of the blacks themselves as to make them instruments for enlisting white soldiers? It would certainly be more constant to the principles of liberty which ought never to be loss sight of in a contest for liberty, (Hutchinson, 2:209). Madison's solution offered liberty not only for the white men who enlisted, but opened a door for Negroes of the time, to fight for that same liberty.

Film review romeo juliet Essays

Film review romeo juliet Essays Film review romeo juliet Essay Film review romeo juliet Essay Film review -Romeo and Juliet This is a review o a film we have seen recently. Its a classical love story written by Shakespeare. In this remake of the play we follow Leonardo Diaspora (Romeo) and Claire Danes Elite). Im going to reflect about the suicide in the end, and how it influences the plot and also how Shakespeare has chosen to convey teen love. What happened (very short summarize)? What happens in the end is that Romeo sees Juliet lying on the big bed surrounded by over a hundred candles. Obviously he thinks she is dead. He says that his life is tot worth living without her by his side. : So he drinks his poison and the same second as he swallows the poison Juliet wakes up. He mentioned this Just a second too late. After theyve kissed for the last time Romeo dies. Juliet takes up the gun that Romeo brought to the church and shoots herself in the head. Analysis: The end is what I thought was the most interesting part of the movie. Thats why Im going to explain and develop my thoughts about teen love. I do not think the suicidal impulse is a separate issue. I Just think its a way to convey the young love in a very throng way. If you compare to many other movies they convey young love in a different way, by a happy ending. The thing is that it doesnt give as much effect as it does in this movie. You get a much bigger sympathy for the actors and its also much easier to understand how strong their attraction to each other is. Many times teen love can be even stronger than love between adults. This is because adults may have been hurt a few times before and therefore know how it is to be heartbroken. This may cause that adults do fear to fall in love. In Robins song Indestructible she sings Im goanna love you like Vive never been hurt before. This is a very good quote which I think define, how I would describe teen love. Teens can fall in love very fast, and they can also proceed, because they have no limits how enamored they can get, and as I said, they may not know how it is to be hurt. This is what I think Shakespeare is trying (and also succeed) to convey to us readers. He put this feeling into words, he explains through the story how this young love is something that people, who has never been hurt before, can die for. And not to forget what this story is all about, forbidden love. This shows that young love is not Just something to die for. Both Romeo and Juliet are ready to deceive their families because of this. This meaner that Shakespeare seems to think that this young love is something to both deceive your family and die for, which I think is a very good explanation to make people understand this phenomenon. As you may have mentioned, I dont think that this is irrelevant to the plot. Id rather say that this is the plot. These are my thoughts and reflections of the newly produced film and worldwide known story about RomeoJuliet. film review Romeo Juliet By overoptimistic

Orbital Definition and Example

Orbital Definition and Example Orbital Definition In chemistry and quantum mechanics, an orbital is a mathematical function that describes the wave-like behavior of an electron, electron pair, or (less commonly) nucleons. An orbital may also be called an atomic orbital or electron orbital. Although most people think of an orbit regarding a circle, the probability density regions that may contain an electron may be spherical, dumbbell-shaped, or more complicated three-dimensional forms. The purpose of the mathematical function is to map the probability of the location of an electron in a region around (or theoretically inside) an atomic nucleus. An orbital may refer to an  Ã¢â‚¬â€¹electron cloud having an energy state described by given values of the n, â„“, and mâ„“ quantum numbers. Every electron is described by a unique set of quantum numbers. An orbital can contain two electrons with paired spins and is often associated with a specific region of an atom. The s orbital, p orbital, d orbital, and f orbital refer to orbitals that have an angular momentum quantum number  Ã¢â€žâ€œÃ‚   0, 1, 2, and 3, respectively. The letters s, p, d, and f come from the descriptions of alkali metal spectroscopy lines as appearing sharp, principal, diffuse, or fundamental. After s, p, d, and f, orbital names beyond  Ã¢â€žâ€œÃ‚  Ã‚  3 are alphabetical (g, h, i, k, ...). The letter j is omitted because it isnt different from i in all languages. Orbital Examples The 1s2 orbital contains two electrons. It is the lowest energy level (n 1), with an angular momentum quantum number â„“ 0. The electrons in the 2px orbital of an atom are generally found within a dumbbell-shaped cloud about the x-axis. Properties of Electrons in Orbitals Electrons display wave-particle duality, which means they exhibit some properties of particles and some characteristics of waves. Particle  Properties Electrons have particle-like properties. For example, a single electron has a -1 electrical charge. There are an integer number of electrons around an atomic nucleus.Electrons move between orbitals like particles. For example, if a photon of light is absorbed by an atom, only a single electron changes energy levels. Wave Properties At the same time, electrons behave like waves. Although its common to think of electrons as individual solid particles, in many ways they are more like a photon of light. Its not possible to pinpoint the location of an electron, only describe the probability of finding one within a region described by a wave function.Electrons dont orbit the nucleus like Earth orbits the Sun. The orbit is a standing wave, with the energy levels like harmonics on vibrating string. An electrons lowest energy level is like the fundamental frequency of a vibrating string, while higher energy levels are like harmonics. The region that might contain an electron is more like a cloud or atmosphere, except a spherical probability only applies when an atom only has a single electron! Orbitals and the Atomic Nucleus Although discussions about orbitals almost always refer to electrons, there are also energy levels and orbitals in the nucleus. The different orbitals give rise to nuclear isomers and metastable states.

Crisis Management - Essay Example Contrasting with other affected nations, UN said that Indonesia is the only nation where the aid retort is immobile in the preliminary emergency and also in the recovery phase. Few regions inside the district and remote islands were absolutely disjointed with wreckages across entry roads as well as aircraft landing regions. Severe damages were experienced at 1.3 million buildings and homes; 4 fuel depots and 8 ports; 85% of water and also 92% of sanitation system; and 120 km of paths as well as 18 bridges. The World Food Program was expected to feed 500,000 people who were relocated or affected in Indonesia in February, the figure went up from January assessment of 330,000. Health threats were also extremely high, although plenteous measures were in place through local and also international medical squads were kept on the different locations (The Evergreen State College, 2005). The comparatively short timeframes after the impact of Tsunami made it a tricky challenge both for the emergency communications as well as management organizations and also for the people who had to respond in the recovery of the people. This has been confirmed that for majority of the damages occurring in recent history, information, which was necessary to prevent devastation, was obtainable at only few of the levels. However, in most of the cases information was either detained by those in accountabilities who were unsuccessful to take action or by those lacking the power to take action, who didn’t share this with those which could have. Apparently, in the case of rapidly-growing incidents like a tsunami, the advantages of automated resolution gates can be readily visible. On the other hand, from the analysis it can be uncovered consequently that there are lots of reasons why this doesn’t happen and life-critical results are still created by

Talent Identification Sport Basketball Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Talent Identification Sport Basketball - Essay Example Once the talent is identified, there are various measures these institutions undertake to help develop the talents spotted into developmental implications in the society. Basketball like any other sport finds success in the UK via institutions that promote the development of the talent (Williams & Franks, 1998, p 162). The support issued to develop talents is injected to the disciplines that are the target of promotion via funds that are relayed by separate bodies. The UK Sport is one body that has invested 100 million pounds annually in athletes to promote success especially in the forthcoming games scheduled for London this year. This paper seeks to highlight attributes that are applied in talent development the facilities involved, and the staff promoting the discipline, basketball to be specific. In the identification of the basketball talent, there needs to be physiological and various tactical abilities to assess the performance of the athlete (Solomon et al, 1996, p 43). There must be physical fitness involved and a stable medical condition that would enable the subject under consideration to meet the desired expectation (Young et al, 1977, p 243). The coaching staffs is usually charged with the role of identifying the proper physical, and tactical attributes while fitness is determined by the medicine staff or trained individuals capable of correcting or assessing the entity. Basketball requires certain skill and the proper height to be applied in playing the sport. Most subjects should be energetic and lack excessive body fat that may impair mobility, and reduce overall performance (Randak, 1998, p 47). Coaching has been earmarked as the major avenue for development according to UK sport. There are international standards set for the coaches as a quality to meet before they can be accorded uncommon freedom to oversee the nurturing of the talent. Basketball, as indicated requires specific rules. Apart from, the tall

Nor mouth had, no nor mind, expressed What heart heard of, ghost guessed: It à s the blight man was born for, It is Margaret you mourn for. Gerard Manley Hopkins was an innovator whose poetry was not published until decades after his death. Hopkins was born in Stratford, Essex, which is near London. He attended Balliol College, University of Oxford. While attending the university, Hopkins was sporadically occupied with verse writing. His passion for religion becomes clearly evident during this time through his poems. His poems revealed a very Catholic character, most of them being abortive, the beginnings of things, ruins and wrecks, as he called them. (Gardner 6) In 1866, he converted to Roman Catholicism, during the Oxford movement. John Henry Newman received him into the Roman Catholic Church. He left Oxford to become a priest, and entered the Jesuit Order in 1868. This is the time when Gerard Manley Hopkins presented a conflict of a man torn between two vocations, religion and the aesthetic world. He also presented a heroic struggle of a man who was so dedicated to one profession that he deliberately sacrificed anoth er profession based on the belief that God willed it to be so. Hopkins is well known for his creation of the term inscape. Inscape can be considered as an individual distinctive beauty. The sensation of inscape, any vivid mental image, is known as instress. (Gardner 11) For Hopkins, inscape was more than sensory impression. It was an insight; by Divine grace into an ultimate reality by seeing the pattern, air, and melody as it were God’s side. (Gardner 27) In "Spring and Fall", Hopkins demonstrates a separation between humanity and nature and a separation between humanity and God. His use of imagery and his sympathetic tone allows the readers to make both distinctions and similarities between adult and child, nature and man, and conscious and intuitive knowledge. The poem is addressed to a child.

Synthesis, And Design Of Chemical Process - 1325 Words

Introduction Appendix B.3 of the textbook Analysis, Synthesis, and Design of Chemical Process 4th Edition summarizes a styrene synthesis process from an equilibrium, de-hydrogenation of ethylbenzene. The equilibrium leaves various amounts of impurities as well as unspent ethylbenzene which is removed by a two stage separation process. The process can be improved upon and optimized for higher product throughput and lower operational and maintenance costs. The separation system was modeled on Aspen Plus V8.6 and a cost analysis performed on CapCost 2012. Methodology Figure 1 shows the Aspen model generated for only the separation process of appendix B.3. after the reaction step. A 99.9% by mole stream of styrene is desired for profit from the separation scheme. The first step in optimization is determining the order of separations from the reactor. All the possible chemicals present in the exiting stream are ethylbenzene, styrene, benzene, ethylene, toluene, methane, hydrogen, and water. Water is introduced as superheated steam to elevate reaction temperature and is an inert, driving the equilibrium reaction to the right, favoring styrene. Hydrogen will remain a gas at 65oC and 80 kPa (Reactor exiting stream temperature and pressure after series exchangers) while all other components will be majority in the liquid-liquid phase. An Interpretation of the Declaration of Independence - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1542 Downloads: 4 Date added: 2019/04/26 Category History Essay Level High school Tags: Declaration of Independence Essay Did you like this example? Tolerance is a thing that many individuals have faced. When it comes to tolerance, there is a limitation of endurance. Throughout history, there is an occurring pattern that whenever a situation becomes unfavorable to citizens, the solution has always been to fight for change. One such instance is the moment the 13 colonies decided to separate from Great Britain. The 13 colonies had endured the tyrannical presence of Britain. Yet, they had hit a breaking point when it became apparent that the colonists rights had been violated after King George III imposed new taxes. Many of the colonists disliked that the taxes had been created without their consent. In addition, the colonists did not have a direct representation in the Parliament that had levied the taxes. In fact, the slogan no taxation without representation was coined out of their anger towards the heavy taxation brought upon them. Ending their tolerance with Britains treatment, the colonists finally set forth with the i dea of establishing their own government. Moreover, the colonists wanted a government in which the citizens rights would be acknowledged. Thus, the Declaration of Independence was created out of a necessity to begin the process. After numerous discussions, the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. This was a huge milestone for colonial America, now known as the United States of America. Within this research paper, the purpose of the declaration will be explained. Even more, an analysis of how it became the foundation of enduring concepts and how it has been adapted into modern American political culture will be provided. Ideally, Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence with an evident purpose. The genuine reason for the declaration was not only with the intention to create law, but formally providing an explanation for the Continental Congresss choice to vote for independence from Britain. The Declaration of Independence asserted a philosophy of governmen t that no such government can rule without the consent of the governed, and that the basic purpose of government is to ensure and protect peoples rights. It gave a plethora of examples of how the government of Great Britain†particularly King George III†had violated rights of the colonists and by doing so lost their consent. It then proclaimed that, as a result of this, the colonies issuing it were free and independent states (Declaration of Independence: A Transcription). By severing their connections with Britain, the United States earned a rightful entrance to the international community as sovereign states (Pencak 225). With sound reasons and facts which they claimed under the doctrines of naturalist school of thought, the colonies had declared their rights to be admitted as sovereign states and to be treated as an equal to all existing official governments. During this era, it was customary to provide statements that were verifiable by observation and experience befo re giving out a main concern. The declaration presented the words that were needed to express to the international community the reasons as to why the colonists chose to separate from Britain. Many historians believed that Thomas Jefferson was heavily influenced by John Lockes definition of natural rights while he wrote the declaration. One of the objectives of the declaration was to emphasize that all of mankind should have the right to protect their own lives, to be free to do something, and acquire their own property. Jefferson also stated that these rights cannot be denied or taken away. The next passage began talking about entering a social contract in which a government is created in order to secure a citizens natural rights (Declaration of Independence: A Transcription). Colonial Americans strived for an institution that recognized the frailties of being a human. By entering a social contact, people voluntarily agreed to participate being in a government. There were two main appeasements entailed with this social contract; the governed people had willingly given their consent to strip away some of their rights as a collective, all the while their natural rights would be protected by their government in return. The citizens had approved of allowing their government to have the power to legitimately use coercion to protect them and to continue to tax them. In broader terms, the government would protect its people from external and internal threats if they acquiesced to relinquish some of their rights. An equilibrium between the citizens of the United States and the government was maintained. What was more significant was the fact that everything had been done with consent. Moving forward, the Declaration of Independence mentioned the notion of popular sovereignty. This concept was based on the principle of consent and aimed to solidify that the assentation of the people is necessary for a government to legally prevail. To be more specific, a governments authority to enforce laws and settle disputes comes directly from the voice of the people that they represent. Overall, a fair government is born out of the peoples will that is responsible on protecting its citizens natural rights. More so, everything that the declaration claimed would be held to withstand time and secured the rights of people. The entirety of paragraph 2 of the declaration established several universal truths. People have the right to create a new government when their rights are being threatened and these rights are given to them when they are born. This is exactly what colonial Americans had wanted; a government that would protect their rights and treat them with equality. In discussions of equality, the declaration stresses the importance of people having liberties, and the right to stand on the same level as everyone else. Initially in 1776, the phrase all men are created equal had been used to declare the entitlement of natural rights. However, these rights were limited to white men only. Slaves, women, and non-Europeans were deprived of these liberties. To say that all men are created equal was surely an understatement for the newly established government, and it would take several years for the phrase to flourish. It was not until 1865 that America abolished slavery. Along with this, former slaves earned citizenship and all men were given the right to vote. As the United States began to prosper, the guarantee of due process was granted to everyone. By 1920, voting rights had finally been given to women. The unconstitutionality of racial segregation was amended in 1964. In the following year, any voting rules that were deemed discriminatory became illegal. Amid all the criticism that this phrase had garnered, it can be truly said that this phrase is meant to be interpreted as the will of the future Americans (Armitage 55). Despite our nations past, all men are created equal is prevailing even in todays society. For over 200 years, t his society continues to work in attaining equality for all of mankind. The exertion of power to assert peoples rights and to make it into action is still a God given right. The manner in which these powers are being used is something that should always be taken heavily into account. The more powerful a society is, the more it is predisposed to cause our demise. An inquiry regarding how a government distributes equality to its people can be done by focusing on how the nation maintains a unique way of executing its powers. An excerpt from Neil L. Yorks academic journal states: As celebrated now, independence then provided the political means to achieve a social end, that social end being a better life for Americans, their new nation acting as an example for the larger world. Or, as Stephan E. Lucas put it, the Declaration of Independence went through an apotheosis, which, over the years, Americans have come to see its original purpose in universal terms almost wholly divorced form t he events of 1776 (York 563). In other words, the past persistently plays into what is happening currently. Although the United States does not face a repeat of what transpired in 1776, it is important to note that the Declaration of Independence stands as a reminder that participating in government is something that citizens have an obligation to do. Actively partaking in a government ensures the nature of how the future will look like. The creation of the Declaration of Independence would largely influence modern American political culture. The declaration itself is a symbolic representation of American democracy and, by extension, an example to other nations how a government should function. The governed citizens of the United States believe in the pursuit of freedom and expression of individuality. Furthermore, the declaration serves as the basis for many of the charters that are made. Case in point, the Bill of Rights is a continuation of what the Declaration of Independence established: citizens hold certain unalienable rights that governments cannot deprive from them. In conclusion, the signing of the Declaration of Independence was necessarily done to put an end to an oppression and justified that, in self-government, natural rights must be safeguarded. As a result, the United States of America came into existence solely because of what its people believed. It cannot be denied that governments are vital in the exercising of our laws. Any government without the careful eyes of its people will turn into a corrupt entity (Locke 18). Therefore, even today, the Declaration of Independence drives individuals to fight against forces that endanger what is rightfully theirs. Don’t waste time! Web Search Engine and Google Essay - 753 Words

Case Discussion Questions: 1. How does Google’s mission drive strategy at the company? Google had a framework and foundation with the vision to obtain the business of China’s customers with little to now censorship. Seeing that they needed China in the market, Google not only followed their own policies but also made key decisions adopted by the management which had major financial impact. To remain true to their mission of â€Å"to organize the world’s information and make it universally acceptable and useful† (Jones, 2008) they had to decide whether or not to move operations to China or remain in the U.S. The direction of the organization toward keeping that mission was effective when they decided to move operations to China and†¦show more content†¦Google focused on customer needs (accessing information) and then provided solutions to make this happen. By utilizing self-censorship, they weren’t being â€Å"evil† but rather adhering to China’s governmental requests and requirements for business. Moreover, when a company chooses censorship on its own it may show the governments that they are willing to not only follow their laws without issue but also to put their nations people first as well. Many times when a government wants to censor for you they will also censor more than the company would have done for them. Google may have deterred this by performing self-censorship as well. 4. Decreasing Animal Euthanasia Free Essays

string(64) " where you can enter your zip code to find places close to you\." Animal Euthanasia is looked at in many different aspects and can be seen as a beneficial act or completely evil. Some may need to euthanize their animal for health issues, while others are just euthanizing their animal because they can’t take care of them and nobody is willing to adopt. Euthanasia occurs daily, with innocent animals losing their lives because of our local animal shelters being over-crowded. We will write a custom essay sample on Decreasing Animal Euthanasia or any similar topic only for you Order Now Why is this? Well, many adopters are not responsible enough to take care of their animals in general, along with getting them spayed and neutered. Approximately 5 to 7 millions animals enter animal shelters annually, and about 3 to 4 million end up euthanized. (ASPCA, n. d. ) This is a prime example of a huge issue that needs to be paid attention to. These animals are having to lose their lives not because they are cruel, dangerous animals, but simply that our shelters are not big enough, and our adoption rates aren’t high enough, and adoptive families aren’t being forced to get their pets spayed and neutered to slow down the animal population. Spaying and neutering your pet will decrease the amount of euthanasia occurring in not only our hometown shelters, but throughout the United States as well. Adoptive families have the normal application along with reference checks and landlords if they are current renters. But is this enough to really know if someone is able to take care of an animal? Shouldn’t there be a much more guided policy with strict enforcement on who adopts along with a signature to make sure at the right age, if applicable, they spay or neuter their newest addition to the family? We need to make a stand against how many animals go in and out of shelters and homes, then end up being killed because of a humans actions. It just isn’t fair. Animal euthanasia occurs nationwide. Do you have an animal at home? Do you consider your pet a family member, or companion that you would be ashamed to lose? If you feel that way, its best to Decreasing Animal Euthanasia Page 3 be sure you spay and neuter your loved pets because if not, their liters could end up in the hands of wrong families, maybe not intentionally, but to families that may end up realizing they can’t handle that pet, and bringing it to the shelter. Though it’s only recommended that orphan animals stay a minimum of 5 days, before or after those 5 days that animal could be euthanized solely because of the caretaker, not that the animal was harmful or ill. (How Long.. Sleep? , n. d. ) According to the ASPCA, 60% of animals entering shelters in the United States are euthanized and around 4 million are euthanized simply because of shelter overcrowding. (Shelter, September, 2011. ) We have a huge issue here. This is the same as the homeless people we have on the streets today, its only going to progress! We need to take a stand and make shelter for these animals. We need to expand our shelters, and if not, maybe start spay and neuter clinics for a very low cost so more people can willingly come get their animals fixed to slow down the population of animals born each day. With almost 5,000,000 pets being destroyed annually, 13,700 daily, 570 hourly, and 10 animals each minute, within the time it took just to read part of this paper, multiple animals have been euthaniased. Animal League, n. d. ) Now think, if majority of those animals or at least half had been spayed and neutered, that would have led those numbers to be split in half, all because of a simple spay and neuter process that adoptive families are slacking to accomplish out of lack of concern. If the plan is to not spay or neuter your animal, plan to treat that animal as your own blood. When that animal ends up pregnant, the responsbility comes back on you. Same as the pregnancies today. Females take a birth control to avoid unwanted pregnancies, thats the pet owners responsibility to keep their animal from pregnancy as they can’t go to the vet and pay to get it done themselves! After doing some research I have found that there are other supporters other than myself trying to make an end to this animal euthanasia for innocent animals. Fosterspot. com is a website that was Decreasing Animal Euthanasia Page 4 designed for stopping euthanasia to healthy animals and making this website a nation-wide network of fostering families. I thought this was a great idea because of the fact that some adoptive families are picky for what type of cat or dog for example they are looking for. On this website, people not only from our hometown would know what we have at our local shelters, but anyone interested in certain types of animals could see where they were available! Not only can we just simply adopt to stop euthanasia and its daily occurrences, we could also try to have a local fundraiser or charity fund to expand our local shelter. We would speak to the president of the animal shelter and work together with the shelter on this. If expansion wasn’t a possibility, we could also help by spreading the word of adoption, along with being a volunteer at your local shelter if time permits. Any help in the humane society field would help! Also, helping fund/collect animal food so the shelter can put more money towards expansion or other plans that are more costly. Another big issue and something to promote, is getting adoptive families to spay and neuter their animals. Yes, its true that spay and neutering your animals is not cheap, though many people don’t know that there are alternatives and ways to receive low-cost spaying and neutering. The Humane Society of The United States promotes a low cost alternative on their website where you can enter your zip code to find places close to you. You read "Decreasing Animal Euthanasia" in category "Papers" (Humane Society of The United States, n. d) Luckily, our community of Waterville in Maine has our local humane society that offers low-cost spaying and neutering prices! If we could get the word out there on how crucial it is for families to bring their pets in for this procedure, not only would this help euthanasia statistics, but also the adoptive families in the long run of dealing with a pregnant female dog or cat in their household! They then would have to deal with a liter and getting rid of them, which isn’t always as easy as people presume it to be! Spaying and neutering household pets not only keeps away from unwanted pregnancies, but has Decreasing Animal Euthanasia Page 5 other benefits as well! This keeps animals alive longer, have a healthier life, along with saving the adoptive family from frustration as well. Things like breast cancer or dangerous uterine infections in females or testicular cancer in males can be reduced or eliminated all together. Also, messy heat cycles in female animals aren’t a very joyous experience. Yet many people complain of the cost of getting animals spayed and neutered but getting pets spayed and neutered will eliminate that extra expence for food or vet services in the event of an unexpected liter of kittens or puppies. So whats more worth it? Finding a low cost clinic and getting pets spayed and neutered or waiting for pregnancy to happen which in turn can be ten times the amount of a simple spay and neuter procedure! Following spaying and neutering household pets, its also important to make sure the animal can be identified because sometimes animals stray away and end up not coming home, which in turn either the foster family looks for the animal and calls local shelters if the animal has been found, or they just aren’t concerned. This in turn also causes overcrowding in shelters, due to lack of care on the families end. Making sure that these pets are wearing an identification tag, including the foster families name, address and phone number would eliminate that part of the animals being put in shelters. Also, don’t assume that indfoor pets don’t need tags because many strays in shelters actually are told to be indoor animals that escaped. (Animal Shelter Euthanasia) One thing that I think I will always wonder if why animal euthanasia is legal, but human euthanasia is not. We don’t take our homeless population and kill them because there is no place for them to go. Euthanizing an animal who is suffering and should be put out of misery is fine, but a human is not? If someone is suffering so much no matter from what the circumstances may be, we are either drugging the patient up to not feel the pain as much, or just letting them deal with it everyday. Euthanasia in humans is not permitted, even in the most extreme cases, though animals are being euthanized for simply having no place to stay, or being cramped in a kennel. It makes me think of Decreasing Animal Euthanasia Page 6 something like suicide and how people have to suffer to end their lives, or suffer simply in a hospital bed getting infused with all kinds of drugs. Whats the point of life when you’ve reached those limits? If animal euthanasia is permitted, I believe human euthanasia should too. Working in the medical field and pursuing my degree as a registered nurse, I see many patients suffer and their lives being just a miserable mess, along with the family dealing with seeing their loved ones suffer. Sure, some people have to suffer in order to get better, and then they can be back to normal some day, though others may not ever be able to communicate again, to walk again. I think with our freedom we have today, we should have the right to be euthanized if we are in severe sufferage and prefer to just go on to the after life. We are the voice for these animals though. We are their protectors and we are the ones who have to make their decisions. Euthanizing an animal simply because it would cause crowding in shelters, or because of adoptive families not following through on getting the pet spayed and neutered is just disturbing. I think that if we take these steps together, along with having others proceed on this issue with us, there will be more awareness and more information put out there. It truly is the only way to really get something across is to spread the word, and never give up on your beliefs and your goals and achievements. These innocent animals deserve a life just as you or I do. We all have one precious life, and once its taken, we never can get it back. People may not look at animals as an importance, but they are here for reasons, just as we as humans are. Animal euthanasia is immoral and wrong and I know that if you feel as strongly about animals as I do, you will do whats in your will power to help decrease animal euthanasia in your community. Wither you can make a big impact, or small, it really all balances out and everyone matters. It’s about coming together and making a change for the better. So today is the day to take a stand and make a change. Go and get your pet spayed and neutered along with spreading the word and letting others know the importance of this matter. In the end it benefits more than just the Decreasing Animal Euthanasia Page 7 animal, but also yourself as you can be rest assured you made your impact on this issue.
